Starting today (April 4 at 12pm PT / 8pm BST), Anthropic will no longer allow Claude subscription limits to be used with third-party harnesses including OpenClaw — the engine that powers your EcomClaw agent. If you connected your Claude account during onboarding, your agent will stop working unless you switch to EC Credits.
Who Is Affected
This only affects you if you signed in with your Claude account (OAuth) during onboarding. If you're already on EC Credits or using an API key, no action is needed.
What to Do
- Go to Settings > AI Provider in your EcomClaw dashboard
- Switch your provider to EC Credits
- Your agent will restart automatically and continue working
That's it. EC Credits are our managed billing system — no API keys to configure, no usage caps to worry about. We handle everything.
Anthropic's Transition Offers
Anthropic is offering two things to soften the transition:
- One-time credit equal to your monthly Claude subscription price for extra usage — redeem by April 17
- Bundle discounts up to 30% when you pre-purchase extra usage
These apply to your Claude account directly. If you want to keep using Claude's pay-as-you-go "extra usage" instead of EC Credits, you can enable that in your Claude account settings. However, we recommend EC Credits for the simplest experience with EcomClaw.
Refunds
Anthropic will send a separate email tomorrow with the option to refund your Claude subscription if you no longer need it after this change.
Why This Is Happening
Anthropic stated that third-party tools put outsized strain on their systems, and they need to prioritize capacity for their core products (Claude.ai, Claude Code, Claude Cowork). Your Claude subscription still covers those products — it just no longer covers third-party harnesses like OpenClaw.
